What you’ll learn

  • · Download and install Calibre (free)
  • · Convert PDFs, MOBI, and other formats to EPUB
  • · Batch-convert multiple files
  • · Import EPUB files into Morph
  • · Troubleshoot conversion issues (OCR, formatting)

The playbook

  1. 1

    Download Calibre (Free, Open-Source)

Go to calibre-ebook.com → Download. Choose your OS (Windows, Mac, Linux). Install normally. Calibre is free and trusted by millions.

  2. 2

Launch Calibre and Create a Library

Open Calibre. Choose a location for your library (~/Documents/Calibre Library recommended). This becomes your conversion workspace.

  3. 3

    Add Books to Calibre

Click 'Add Books' (top left) → Select your PDF, MOBI, HTML, or other ebook files from your computer. Calibre imports them.

  4. 4

    Select Books to Convert

In Calibre's library view, select the books you want to convert to EPUB. Click multiple to batch-convert (Ctrl+Click or Shift+Click).

  5. 5

    Convert to EPUB

Right-click selected books → 'Convert Books' → 'Convert Individually'. A dialog opens. Leave format as EPUB. Click OK. Calibre converts all selected books.

  6. 6

    Find Converted EPUBs

After conversion, right-click a book → 'Open Containing Folder'. This shows where Calibre saved the EPUB file. Copy it to ~/Downloads or organized folder.

  7. 7

    Batch Export to Single Folder

Optional: Select all converted books → Right-click → 'Save To Disk'. Choose a destination folder (~/Downloads/epubs-for-morph). This copies all EPUBs in one place.

  8. 8

    Open Morph and Import

On your device: Open Morph app → Library → '+' button → 'Import from Files'. Select your EPUB files. Morph syncs them to cloud.

  9. 9

    Verify Import and Quality

Open each imported book in Morph. Check formatting (text wrapping, images). If formatting is broken, re-convert in Calibre with different settings.

  10. 10

    Enable TTS on Imported Books

Open a book → Speaker icon → Select TTS voice and speed. Test. Your Calibre-converted ebooks now have narration in Morph.

Common mistakes

Not selecting the right input format in Calibre (it usually auto-detects, but double-check)

Calibre detects file type automatically. Verify the book is recognized correctly before converting.

Converting PDFs with scanned images (no text layer) → Results in gibberish

Scanned PDFs need OCR (optical character recognition). Calibre has OCR plugin (requires setup). For scanned books, use Google Drive OCR first, or accept imperfect conversion.

Not checking EPUB quality after conversion—importing broken formatting to Morph

Open each converted EPUB in an ebook viewer (Apple Books, Calibre) before importing to Morph. Verify text and images are correct.

Converting hundreds of books without testing first

Convert 1-2 test books first. Verify quality. Then batch-convert the rest.

Deleting PDFs after Calibre conversion—losing originals if conversion fails

Keep original files. If EPUB conversion has issues, you can retry with different settings.

Quick wins

  • Download Calibre from calibre-ebook.com
  • Install and launch
  • Add one PDF to your library
  • Convert to EPUB (takes 5-10 seconds)
  • Open the EPUB in an ebook viewer to test quality
  • If good, import to Morph and enable TTS
